Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform dental hygiene services and procedures, including dental prophylaxis, scaling, fluoride and sealant application, and root planing.
  • Evaluate the overall oral health of patients; examining oral cavity for signs of periodontal disease or possible cancers, including sores, recessed & bleeding gums, and oral lesions.
  • Document dental history or chief complaint of patients; record and report pertinent observations and patient reactions to dental staff and document in the patient’s chart.
  • Direct and educate patients on postoperative and general oral health care and preventive techniques.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and safeguard personal information.
  • Follow specific procedures and protocols that enhance the clinical flow, provide timely patient care, and ensure the operatory environments are safe and sterile.
  • Manage dental equipment, maintain inventory, and ensure proper functioning, including sterilization of dental instruments and machines.
  • Stay informed on the latest industry techniques and methods related to dental hygiene.
  • Build trusting relationships with patients, ensuring a positive experience during their visit, which aims at increasing patient retention and satisfaction.
  • Assist in the development of new policies and procedures as needed, helping evolve the dental service offerings.
  • Collaborate with other members of the dental team, assisting other dental professionals in carrying out their duties when required.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree or higher in Dental Hygiene from an accredited program.
  • Current and valid state licensure as a Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH) required.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Excellent understanding of dental hygiene procedures, with a demonstrated ability to perform a full range of accepted dental hygiene services.
  • Knowledge of dental charting software and digital radiography preferred.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to explain treatments clearly and manage concerns of patients.
  • Strong work ethics, a high level of empathy, and a patient-centric approach to health care.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks concurrently.
  • Commitment to maintaining professional appearance and demeanor at all times.
  • Flexibility to work extended hours, weekends, and other times as necessary to meet patient needs.
