Job Title: Painting Sales & Estimating Associate

Reports to: Brian Hepfer, Sales Manager


Position Overview and Objectives:

The Painting Sales & Estimating Associate is responsible for engaging with customers to sell projects and creating estimates that meet customer needs and company standards.


Responsibilities:

The selected candidate will be required to:

  • Conduct site visits to assess client needs, discuss project options, and gather necessary information for accurate estimations

  • Develop detailed project estimates and proposals, ensuring they are comprehensive, competitive, and profitable; aiming for completion on the spot or within a maximum of four days

  • Follow up on quotes within three days via phone, followed by an email if necessary

  • Build and maintain strong customer relationships, providing exceptional customer service throughout the sales process

  • Negotiate with suppliers and vendors to secure the best prices and terms for materials and services, and manage contracts to ensure compliance with budgetary constraints

  • Collaborate with the Sales Administration Associate to ensure project requirements are clearly understood and executed effectively

  • Monitor progress of estimates and sales closure to ensure sales goals are being met

  • Monitor market trends and competitor pricing to adjust sales strategies and estimations accordingly

  • Maintain a professional and friendly demeanor, with exceptional time management skills

  • Possess a deep understanding of the painting process, including knowledge of common painting failures and their impact on various surfaces

  • Have thorough product knowledge to advise clients accurately

  • Develop strategies for business development timeframes with fewer incoming estimate bids

  • Participate in BNI meetings, RSS, after-hour functions, and perform weekly one-to-one meetings

  • Engage with the Chamber of Commerce through attendance at morning, lunch, after-hours, and other special events

  • Focus on building and maintaining professional relationships with clients, internal and external cross-functional partners

  • Commit to education and training opportunities to stay informed on the latest industry trends, painting techniques, and product developments

  • Offer consultation to Sales & Marketing Manager regarding organization-level opportunities for new technology, services, products, and/or training opportunities for team members that are discovered during networking events or vendor site visits

  • Properly document worked shifts within the time-tracking system



Required Knowledge, Experience, Education, and Training:

The skills required for optimal job performance include:

  • Proven experience in sales, particularly in the construction, painting, or home improvement industries

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to create accurate estimates

  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills 

  • Strong documentation and organizational skills 

  • Self-motivated and dedicated to high-quality work

Experience & Education required:

  • High School diploma or equivalent (GED) required

  • 2+ years of experience in sales Proficiency in Microsoft Office and estimating software

  • A background in painting or a related field is preferred to understand the technical aspects of projects

  • Familiarity with CRM software preferred

  • Skills in preparing estimates and understanding technical specifications preferred
