Budget Analyst

Salary Range:  $80 - $90 year

POSITION SUMMARY

The Budget Analyst supports a fast-moving organization by turning financial data into actionable insight. The position calls for independent judgment and strong analytical skills to build and improve reports, contribute to strategic planning, and equip leaders with tools for sound decision-making. Key responsibilities include managing the annual budgeting cycle for both operations and the grants function, producing monthly financial reporting, analyzing results to spot trends, and preparing pro forma models and budget forecasts. Success in this role depends on collaboration with leadership, Business Intelligence/Data and stakeholders across the organization with clear, effective communication and timely completion of deliverables.

Qualifications

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in finance, accounting, or business administration, with at least four (4) years of related budget analyst experience, preferably in the healthcare industry  
  • Excellent computer knowledge and advanced competence in Microsoft Excel. Experience with Sage Intacct (accounting software) and Martus (budget software), preferred.  Comparable software/systems, required.
  • Must have experience in financial plan development under healthcare settings, including but not limit to pro forma financial statements, cost analysis, ROI projection, project budgeting, and cash flow forecast 
  • Experience with medical/dental practice management system and EMR applications for statistical reporting, trending, and charting  
  • Experience with creating and developing operational budgets 
  • Detailed knowledge of financial statements and general GAAP requirements
  • Experience with financial modeling   
  • Good verbal and written communication skills 
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills 
  • Ability to set priorities to meet time sensitive project deadlines 
  • Prioritization and multi-task skills are required
  • Competency in working with people of various cultures
  • Ability to perform a variety of assignments requiring considerable exercise of independent judgment
  • Excellent critical thinking skills and solution-based approach to work.

 

POSITION REPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for General ledger reconciliations, journal entry preparation, and verifying accuracy.   
  • Prepare financial performance report to interpret clinical utilization, provider productivity, variance to budget, cost and benefits, and other performance metrics in collaboration with Business Intelligence/Data team members
  • Prepare organizational and departmental financial statements based on solid understanding of payer mix, government reimbursement, third party billing, and revenue cycle management   
  • Identify, develop, and implement new reporting needs.  
  • Partner with stakeholders to provide ad-hoc reporting, training, and guidance on existing and new reporting.  
  • Research, analyze, and present financial information combined with large sets of data including general ledger and clinical to assist stakeholder decision making  
  • Prepare organizational and departmental financial statements based on solid understanding of payer mix, government reimbursement, third party billing, and revenue cycle management  
  • Research, analyze, and present financial information combined with large sets of clinical data including encounter, claims, and patient data in order to communicate economic trend and current issues to executives, managers, clients, and other stakeholders 
  • Identify and develop new reporting needs. 
  • Partner with stakeholders to provide training and guidance on reports. 

 

 

NONESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • CPA, CMA, CHFP, similar certificate preferred but not required
  • Master’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred but not required
  • Demonstrated experience as an Advocate for Health Care or Human Rights

Work environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time when traveling to various clinic sites.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee may be subject to health hazards (contagious diseases, blood borne pathogens, etc.) when working in the clinic area.
