Production Supervisor

(Aerospace & Defense Manufacturing setting)

Location: CMI Group

Shift: Full time, day shift - On-site required, not a remote position.

Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship or Valid Permanent Resident status is required.

Role Overview The Production Supervisor is responsible for the daily leadership, safety, and efficiency of the shop floor operations. This is a high-visibility, "boots-on-the-ground" role requiring 70% of time spent on the floor directly supervising machinists, setup personnel, and inspectors. You will drive operational excellence in a high-precision aerospace environment where safety and quality are the top priorities.

Responsibilities:

Shop Floor Leadership & Supervision

  • Directly supervise all shop floor personnel, ensuring machines are staffed and operators are productive.
  • Maintain a constant floor presence to observe setups, verify first-piece inspections, and conduct in-process quality checks.
  • Coach and mentor the team, providing technical guidance and performance feedback to maintain high skill levels.
  • Facilitate daily Tier-1 stand-up meetings to communicate priorities, "hot jobs," and production targets.

Operational Planning & Execution

  • Manage shift handoffs by reviewing night shift reports, machine alarms, and scrap logs to ensure a seamless transition.
  • Manage and adjust daily production schedules within the Infor Syteline ERP system to meet customer delivery dates.
  • Coordinate with Planning, Engineering, and the Tool Crib to ensure material (bar stock, forgings) and tooling are staged for upcoming jobs.
  • Monitor daily metrics, including on-time delivery percentages, first-pass yield, and overall equipment efficiency.

Quality & Safety Compliance

  • Enforce a "zero-escape" quality culture, ensuring 100% adherence to aerospace work instructions, travelers, and AS9100 standards.
  • Manage Material Review Board (MRB) items, non-conformances, and quality holds to minimize production delays.
  • Maintain strict safety protocols, including PPE compliance, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and Foreign Object Debris (FOD) awareness.
  • Review and approve First Article Inspection Reports (FAIRs) and ensure full traceability of all components.

Administrative & Strategic Support

  • Attend cross-functional production meetings with Quality, Engineering, and Supply Chain to resolve constraints.
  • Manage administrative duties including timecard approval, production data entry, and maintenance downtime coordination.
  • Drive 5S initiatives and shop cleanliness to ensure a professional and safe working environment.

Qualifications and Other Requirements:

  • Experience: 5+ years of leadership experience in a precision CNC machining or aerospace manufacturing environment.
  • Technical Proficiency: Strong ability to read blueprints/GD&T and experience using ERP software (Syteline preferred).
  • Leadership Style: Proven ability to lead by example, resolve conflicts on the floor, and manage high-pressure production pushes.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written skills for effective shift handoffs and cross-departmental coordination.
  • Must be a U.S. Person per ITAR requirements (US citizen or permanent resident)
