Job description
AZPerio is looking for a qualified surgical assistant in the Valley to join our growing practices. Core responsibilities include: assisting with checkups and surgical procedures related to gums, tissue, and bone as well as operating secondary and tertiary equipment and tools required for a given procedure.
The surgical assistant is a critical member of the AZPerio team that is responsible for assisting with surgeries under the supervision of the managing doctor at the respective locations in Ahwatukee and Gilbert.
Minimum Requirements
- High School Graduate
- CPR certification, X-ray certification, and required OSHA certifications (can be obtained following employment).
- Knowledge of basic dental terminology, infection control, and emergency response procedures.
- Excellent customer service, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in computer and keyboarding.

Primary Responsibilities
- Demonstrates knowledge and proficiency in all tasks and responsibilities in the surgical department and provides technical assistance when needed.
- Analyzes internal processes to recommend and implement procedural or policy changes to improve operations.
- Ensures that accountabilities for all clinical staff at their location are executed as expected.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned by clinical team leader.
- Demonstrates knowledge of, supports, and implements company mission, vision, value statements, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions and confidentiality standards.
- Any other relevant duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge and understanding of dental surgery and associated procedures, terminology, and techniques, including periodontal instruments and implant surgery.
- Knowledge of patient screening, charting and medical history procedures, and documentation.
- Knowledge of CPR and emergency procedures.
- Knowledge of all job responsibilities in the clinical department.
- Knowledge of office software, including DSN, Dexis and digital imaging software.
- Superior knowledge of operating systems.
- Knowledge of exceptional customer service standards.
- Active listening skills to give attention to what other people are saying, take time to understand the points being made, asking questions, as appropriate.
- Active learning skills to understand the implications of new information for both current and future problem solving and decision-making.

Working Conditions
- Work is performed in an interior medical/clinical environment that is well lit and clean.
- Moderate physical activity may be necessary. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
- Work environment involves some exposure to hazards and/or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
