Position Summary
McLain Site Solutions is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Survey Rodman to assist the Survey Crew Chief in performing land and construction surveys. This position is responsible for supporting field survey operations by handling survey equipment, holding grade rods, setting hubs and stakes, marking reference points, and helping ensure accurate measurements are collected for construction and engineering projects. This is an excellent opportunity to work with cutting-edge surveying technology while contributing to heavy civil construction and infrastructure projects.
Essential Responsibilities
Assist the Survey Crew Chief with daily land and construction surveying activities.
Hold and position grade rods, prisms, and GPS equipment for accurate data collection.
Set hubs, lath, stakes, nails, and other survey markers as directed.
Mark reference points, control points, and construction layout locations.
Assist with construction staking for utilities, grading, roadways, building pads, and other heavy civil projects.
Operate and care for survey equipment, including GPS receivers, robotic total stations, data collectors, and laser levels.
Clear brush, debris, and obstructions to establish survey lines and control points.
Load, unload, transport, and maintain survey equipment and supplies.
Record field notes and assist with documenting survey data.
Communicate effectively with the Survey Crew Chief, project managers, and field personnel.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
Follow all company policies and OSHA safety regulations.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required
High School Diploma or GED preferred.
Previous construction or surveying experience preferred.
Ability to read a tape measure accurately.
Basic math skills and attention to detail.
Ability to follow directions and work as part of a team.
Strong communication and organizational skills.
Willingness to learn surveying methods, equipment, and construction layout.
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record preferred.
Preferred
Experience with GPS surveying equipment, robotic total stations, or data collectors.
Experience with construction staking and layout.
Experience reading construction plans and site drawings.
OSHA 10 Certification.
Experience in heavy civil or site development construction.
Bilingual (English/Spanish).
Physical Requirements
Frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, and work on uneven terrain.
Lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds.
Frequently perform repetitive walking over long distances on active construction sites.
Work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Safely operate survey equipment and hand tools.
Work Environment
This position is performed primarily on active construction sites. Employees regularly work around heavy equipment, excavation activities, moving machinery, dust, noise, vibration, and varying weather conditions. Required PPE must be worn at all times.
Schedule
Monday–Friday
Typical hours: 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM
One-hour unpaid lunch
Overtime may be available based on project needs and business needs.
