Position Summary 

McLain Site Solutions is seeking an experienced Finish Grade Foreman to lead grading crews on heavy civil construction projects. This position is responsible for supervising daily operations while producing precise finish grades for roadways, parking lots, building pads, and utility projects. The ideal candidate has extensive experience operating a motor grader, cutting subgrade, finishing lime rock, establishing grades using string line, and ensuring projects meet specifications, schedule, and quality standards. 

Essential Responsibilities 

  • Supervise and lead finish grading crews on active construction projects. 

  • Operate a motor grader to achieve final grades and project tolerances. 

  • Cut and fine grade subgrade for paving and site development. 

  • Finish and fine grade lime rock to project specifications. 

  • Set, maintain, and work from string line, grade stakes, and laser levels. 

  • Read and interpret construction plans, elevations, and grade sheets. 

  • Coordinate labor, equipment, and materials to maximize production. 

  • Verify grades, elevations, slopes, and drainage requirements. 

  • Communicate with project managers and superintendents regarding project progress. 

  • Train and mentor equipment operators and laborers. 

  • Monitor production while controlling labor and equipment costs. 

  • Conduct daily safety meetings and enforce OSHA and company safety policies. 

  • Maintain equipment inspections and report maintenance needs. 

  • Perform additional duties as assigned. 

Qualifications 

Required 

  • Minimum 2-5 years of finish grading experience. 

  • Previous Foreman or Lead Operator experience. 

  • Expert motor grader operating skills. 

  • Extensive experience cutting subgrade and finishing limerock. 

  • Proficient using string line, lasers, and grade stakes. 

  • Ability to read construction plans and grade elevations. 

  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills. 

  • Ability to make sound decisions and solve problems in the field. 

  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record. 

Preferred 

  • Heavy civil or site development experience. 

  • GPS machine control experience (Topcon, Trimble, or Leica). 

  • OSHA 30 Certification. 

  • CPR/First Aid Certification. 

  • CDL. 

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish). 

Physical Requirements 

  • Frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and work on uneven terrain. 

  • Lift, push, pull, and carry up to 75 pounds. 

  • Operate heavy equipment for extended periods. 

  • Work outdoors in varying weather conditions. 

Work Environment 

This position is performed on active heavy civil construction sites around moving equipment, dust, noise, vibration, and varying weather conditions. Required PPE must be worn at all times. 

Schedule 

  • Monday–Friday 

  • Typical hours: 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM 

  • One-hour unpaid lunch 

  • Overtime may be available based on project needs and business needs.
