Automotive Service Technician

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Repair vehicle automotive systems including transmission, air conditioning, heating, brakes, suspension, steering, fuel delivery, exhaust, and electrical systems.
  • Diagnose issues based on customer complaints and perform test drives to verify concerns and assess the functionality of vehicles.
  • Conduct routine maintenance tasks such as oil changes, tune-ups, transmission services, checking fluid levels, tire rotation, and balancing to ensure vehicle reliability and performance.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment by adhering to company standards and safety regulations at all times.
  • Utilize diagnostic tools to accurately identify mechanical and electronic problems in a wide range of automotive brands and models.
  • Communicate effectively with service advisors and parts clerks to obtain necessary parts, explain vehicle issues to customers, and provide detailed service recommendations.
  • Contribute to team efforts by accomplishing related results as needed, helping peers with their tasks when necessary, and sharing best practices.
  • Document all services performed and actions taken on repair orders, maintaining accurate records for customer histories and warranty purposes.
  • Assist in the training and mentoring of junior technicians to help them develop their skills and knowledge in automotive service.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in automotive and engine repair, demonstrating a broad skill set and technical proficiency.
  • Preferably ASE certified, or significant progress towards obtaining ASE certification.
  • Possession of a Virginia State Inspector License or the ability to obtain one promptly.
  • Must hold a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; further technical training or certification in automotive repair is highly desirable.
  • Reliable transportation to ensure punctuality and consistent attendance.
  • Able to stand for long periods of time and lift up to 50 lbs without assistance.
  • Must maintain and provide a personal tool set appropriate for the tasks required.
  • Strong commitment to punctuality and time management, with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
