Job Summary
The Main Shop Technician at Metro Nissan Dallas is a skilled automotive professional responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining Nissan vehicles in the main service bays. This role handles complex mechanical, electrical, electronic, and diagnostic repairs beyond routine maintenance (such as oil changes or tire rotations handled by express/quick lube teams). The technician ensures vehicles meet Nissan factory standards for safety, performance, and reliability while delivering exceptional customer service through accurate and efficient repairs.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform diagnostics and repairs on Nissan vehicles using factory-approved tools, equipment, and software (e.g., Consult III/IV diagnostic systems).
- Diagnose and repair issues with engines, transmissions, drivetrains, suspension, steering, brakes, electrical/electronic systems, HVAC, and advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS).
- Complete repair orders efficiently and accurately according to dealership and Nissan standards.
- Conduct test drives to verify repairs and identify additional issues.
- Maintain accurate records of services, parts used, and labor time.
- Collaborate with Service Advisors to explain technical issues to customers in clear, non-technical language.
- Stay current with Nissan technical service bulletins (TSBs), recalls, and training programs.
- Participate in manufacturer-sponsored training and pursue/ maintain relevant certifications.
- Keep work area clean, organized, and compliant with safety standards.
- Assist with mentoring junior technicians when needed.
- Perform multi-point inspections and recommend additional services.
Qualifications & Requirements
- 3+ years of experience as an automotive technician, preferably in a Nissan or import dealership environment.
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills, with experience using scan tools and digital multimeters.
- ASE certifications preferred (e.g., A1–A8, L1, or Master Technician status); Nissan-specific training or certification (such as through Nissan Technician Training Academy – NTTA) is a strong plus.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Own set of basic hand tools and personal toolbox (specialty Nissan tools provided by dealership).
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, lift up to 50+ lbs, and stand for extended periods.
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical school or manufacturer training preferred.
- Familiarity with Nissan/Infiniti vehicles, hybrid/EV systems, and modern automotive technology is highly desirable.
