Field Safety Lead

IS4S is seeking a motivated, hands-on safety professional to ensure the safety plans and procedures at IS4S Opelika are carried out in the many field operations onsite. This individual will work daily in our laboratories, magazines, processing areas, and test ranges, verifying that controls are in place when work happens, supporting safety training and inspections, and helping our engineers and technicians work safely. The role focuses on execution and verification in the field rather than engineering hazard analysis.  The position entails rigorous documentation, accountability, mentorship, and other aspects of implementation of the IS4S safety program.

Responsibilities include:

• Maintain daily presence in labs, magazines, processing areas, and test areas, observing work and verifying controls are in place at the time of execution
• Verify pre-test readiness: required documentation, procedures, and qualified personnel confirmed before work begins
• Conduct routine safety inspections and support internal audits and inspections by federal, state, and local agencies
• Ensure SOP and Test Plan requirements are implemented in the field and followed
• Provide initial and refresher safety training and maintain employees' training records
• Support incident and near-miss reporting and investigation, and track corrective actions to closure
• Build working relationships with engineers, program managers, and technicians, and coach rather than police
• Provide assistance or perform other duties as assigned
• The position may require intermittent domestic travel to various IS4S facilities.
• Candidate must be a US citizen and the position may require obtaining a DoD clearance (not required to apply).

Required Experience and Skills

• Bachelor's degree in environmental, occupational, or industrial safety or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
• 3+ years of experience in a safety, operations, or supervisory role in an industrial, manufacturing, or laboratory environment
• Hands-on experience conducting safety inspections and audits, investigating incidents, and delivering safety training
• OSHA 10-hour certification or higher
• High MS Office proficiency
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Ability and motivation to perform self-directed work with minimal oversight

Desired Experience and Skills

• OSHA 30-hour, ASP, CSP, or other formal safety certification
• Experience in explosives, energetics, ammunition, or other high-hazard environments
• Root cause analysis and corrective action experience
• Hazmat/DOT shipping training
• ISO 45001 familiarity
• Meticulous documentation
• Ability to train and coach others
