Position OverviewThe Dental Hygienist plays a central role in the patient experience at Smile Studio of Spring Lake serving as a trusted clinician, patient educator, and key member of our tight-knit clinical team. This full-time, on-site position requires strong clinical skills, exceptional communication, integrity, and a genuine commitment to elevating every patient’s oral health and overall experience. As a cornerstone of our practice, you will maintain and elevate our standards of care through hands-on, personalized patient interaction.
Key Responsibilities
• Perform comprehensive dental hygiene services, including prophylaxis, scaling, root planning, sealant application, and supportive periodontal maintenance
• Conduct thorough periodontal assessments, charting, and oral cancer screenings—examining for signs of periodontal disease, sores, recessed & bleeding gums, and oral lesions
• Take dental radiographs (digital X-rays) and intraoral photos; document findings accurately in Dentrix
• Apply preventive materials to teeth, including sealants and fluorides
• Assess patient eligibility for and perform teeth whitening procedures
• Educate patients on oral hygiene, treatment plans, and preventive dental care in a warm, unhurried manner; provide detailed instructions on brushing, flossing, and nutritional counseling
• Prepare, sterilize, and maintain dental instruments and equipment, ensuring all function safely and adequately
• Manage infection control and assist in medical and dental emergencies
• Document dental history, chief complaints, and observations; record and report patient reactions to dental staff and Dr. Scheddin
• Collaborate closely with Dr. Scheddin to support seamless clinical flow and co-diagnosis
• Use Dentrix and electronic records management systems to maintain accurate patient documentation
• Answer phones and assist with scheduling, managing appointments with professionalism and warmth
• Uphold the highest standards of professionalism, infection control, and patient confidentialityQualifications
• Current, active New Jersey RDH license in good standing required
• Experience with Dentrix and electronic records management strongly preferred
• Exceptional chairside manner, patient communication, and interpersonal skills
• Outgoing and trustworthy attitude with the capacity to handle patients with care and confidentiality
• Comfortable answering phones and scheduling patients in a fast-paced, patient-centered environment
• Highly organized, reliable, and detail-oriented with a strong commitment to clinical excellence
