We are currently seeking dedicated, motivated, and customer-focused Retail Security Officers to support our valued retail clients and help create and maintain a safe, secure, and welcoming shopping environment for all customers and staff members.
Position Summary
The Retail Security Officer plays a critical role in maintaining a highly visible and professional security presence throughout the retail facility, actively preventing theft and loss, ensuring the safety and well-being of both customers and employees, and providing valuable support to overall store operations. The ideal candidate for this position will possess strong observational and analytical skills, demonstrate excellent customer service abilities, and exhibit the high level of professionalism required to interact effectively and appropriately with customers, store staff, management, and law enforcement personnel when circumstances necessitate their involvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Continuously monitor customer and employee activity throughout the retail facility to identify and assess potential security risks, suspicious behavior, and safety concerns.
- Actively deter shoplifting, theft, vandalism, and other forms of criminal activity through the maintenance of a visible, professional security presence and proactive engagement.
- Respond promptly and appropriately to security incidents, policy violations, and emergency situations in a calm, professional, and effective manner.
- Provide excellent, courteous customer service by assisting guests with directions, answering questions when appropriate, and creating a welcoming atmosphere that enhances the overall shopping experience.
- Conduct thorough investigations and document all incidents involving theft, suspicious behavior, accidents, injuries, disturbances, or other security-related matters with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Monitor surveillance camera systems, alarm systems, and other security technology, and promptly report any unusual activity, equipment malfunctions, or security vulnerabilities to appropriate personnel.
- Maintain strict access control for designated employee-only areas, restricted zones, and sensitive locations within the retail facility to prevent unauthorized entry.
- Coordinate and communicate effectively with store management, loss prevention teams, and local law enforcement agencies as needed to address security concerns and criminal activity.
- Complete accurate, detailed, and timely incident reports, daily activity logs, shift reports, and other required documentation in accordance with company policies and client requirements.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent is preferred and demonstrates basic educational competency.
- Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Virginia Security Officer Registration in accordance with state regulations and licensing requirements.
- Previous experience in security, loss prevention, retail operations, military service, or law enforcement is strongly preferred and will be considered a valuable asset.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and proven conflict-resolution abilities that enable effective interaction with diverse individuals.
- Demonstrated ability to remain calm, composed, and professional in stressful, challenging, or confrontational situations.
- Ability to successfully pass a comprehensive criminal background check in accordance with state requirements and company standards.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification is preferred but not required; training opportunities may be available.

Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, and remain on your feet for extended periods throughout the duration of assigned shifts.
- Ability to patrol large retail environments, covering significant distances throughout the facility during each shift.
- Ability to work comfortably in both indoor climate-controlled environments and occasionally in outdoor conditions as needed.
- Ability to respond quickly, efficiently, and appropriately to emergency situations that may require rapid movement or physical intervention.
Uniform & Equipment
- Officers are required to maintain and wear a professional, well-maintained Class A security uniform that meets company standards and presents a professional image at all times.
- Communication devices such as radios or mobile phones, as well as other required equipment and technology, may be issued by the company to support operational effectiveness.
Work Conditions
- Day shifts, evening shifts, overnight shifts, weekend assignments, and holiday shifts may be available depending on client needs and operational requirements.
- Retail environments may experience periods of high customer traffic, fast-paced conditions, and dynamic situations that require adaptability and focus.
- Flexibility and willingness to respond to changing staffing needs, special assignments, and operational demands is preferred and highly valued.
