SouthEnd Psychiatry, a leader in mental health services, is delighted to announce a job opening for the position of Consultant Psychiatrist. This full-time role is based in our state-of-the-art facility and is not a remote position. The Consultant Psychiatrist will play a crucial role in diagnosing and treating patients with a variety of mental health conditions. This position involves working closely with other healthcare professionals to deliver comprehensive and personalized psychiatric services. As a key member of our team, the successful candidate will be expected to use their expertise to enhance patient outcomes and uphold the high standards of care that SouthEnd Psychiatry is known for.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Evaluate patients by conducting psychiatric evaluations, including interviews and physical examinations.
  • Develop treatment plans based on scientific rationale, standards of care, and professional practice guidelines.
  • Prescribe and direct psychotherapeutic treatments or medication to treat mental, emotional, or behavioral disorders.
  • Collaborate with psychologists, social workers, psychiatric nurses, or other professionals to discuss treatment plans and progress.
  • Gather and maintain patient information and records, including social and medical history obtained from patients, relatives, and other professionals.
  • Counsel outpatients and other patients during office visits.
  • Design individualized care plans, using a variety of treatments.
  • Provide emergency psychiatric care to patients in crisis situations.
  • Educate patients and their families on the nature of their condition, managing symptoms, and ways to maintain their health.
  • Stay current on emerging treatments, medication developments, and technologies pertinent to psychiatric care.
  • Participate in training and educational seminars to maintain and enhance professional competence.
  • Contribute to interdisciplinary team efforts by accomplishing related results as needed.

Requirements

  • Medical degree from an accredited school of medicine and successful completion of a residency in psychiatry.
  • Valid and active medical license in the state of practice.
  • Board certified or board eligible in psychiatry.
  • Excellent knowledge of the most recent psychiatric treatments and medications.
  • Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience in psychiatric care post-residency.
  • Demonstrable experience in emergency psychiatric care preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to make informed clinical decisions.
  • Exceptional patient relationship skills with the ability to communicate medical concepts to a non-medical audience.
  • High attention to detail in all aspects of care, particularly in regards to medication prescription and patient confidentiality.
  • Commitment to ongoing education and professional development.
  • Ability to work under pressure and react effectively to urgent situations.
