Duties and Responsibilities
- Secure cargo for transport, using ropes, blocks, chain, binders, or covers.
- Inspect loads to ensure that cargo is secure.
- Maintain logs of working hours or of vehicle service or repair status, following applicable state and federal regulations.
- Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions, following signals from loading crew and checking that vehicle and loading equipment are properly positioned.
- Check all load-related documentation to ensure that it is complete and accurate.
- Drive trucks to weigh stations before and after loading and along routes to document weights and to comply with state regulations.
- Perform basic vehicle maintenance tasks, such as adding oil, fuel, or radiator fluid or performing minor repairs.
- Check conditions of trailers after contents have been unloaded to ensure that there has been no damage.
- Couple or uncouple trailers by changing trailer jack positions, connecting or disconnecting air or electrical lines, or manipulating fifth-wheel locks.
- Communicate with dispatchers, other drivers, or customers by means of wireless devices, on-board computers, telephones, or personal digital assistants (PDAs).
- Operate equipment, such as truck cab computers, CB radios, phones, or global positioning systems (GPS) equipment to exchange necessary information with bases, supervisors, or other drivers.
- Perform routine maintenance on vehicles and auxiliary equipment, such as cleaning, lubricating, recharging batteries, fueling, or replacing liquefied-gas tank.
Requirements
- Class A CDL
- 22 Years of Age
- Years Since DUI: 5
- Accept Felons: Case Basis
- Failed Drug Screen: No
- OTR Experience: 12 Months/Flatbed: 6 Months
- Must be able to drive 10 speed manual transmission
- Hometime: Home some nights
- Live loading/Pre-load performed on-site at customer.
- Average 2+ loads per day.
- Additional training at the customer site.
- Sleeper may require one night not home.
- Routine maintenance to be completed on Saturday (2-3 x year).
- Normal work day is 10 hour days.
- Start between 4AM to 6AM, deliver at 7AM.
