Job Description

Complete Logistical Services is excited to announce an opening for a dedicated and detail-oriented Customs Entry Writer. This position plays a crucial role in the smooth operation of our logistics and customs brokerage operations. The role involves preparation of customs entries and following up to ensure the entry is accepted by customs. The ideal candidate will be based at our main office, as this is not a remote job. It requires proactive engagement with customs processes and direct interaction with both clients and customs officials.

The Customs Entry Writer will be responsible for accurate documentation, compliance with US customs regulations, and ensuring efficient processing of all import entries. This position is key to ensuring that our client's goods move swiftly and legally across borders, minimizing delays and maximizing compliance.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare and file customs entries for imports ensuring strict compliance with all laws and regulations.
  • Classify goods according to the Harmonized Tariff Schedule and maintain up-to-date knowledge of tariff classifications and changes.
  • Communicate directly with clients, carriers, and other operational departments to gather all necessary documentation and information.
  • Coordinate with customs officers to resolve any issues regarding the filing processes or clearance of goods.
  • Track the status of shipments and provide updates to clients and internal teams.
  • Maintain records of entries filed and duties and taxes paid.
  • Review and audit all documents to ensure accuracy and completeness and follow up on discrepancies.
  • Provide advice to clients on import restrictions, tariff systems, and other customs-related matters.
  • Develop and maintain good relationships with U.S. Customs and other governmental agencies involved in the import process.
  • Take proactive steps to avoid delays in the customs process, including pre-researching requirements for particular shipments.
  • Stay informed of changes and updates in customs laws and regulations and communicate these changes effectively to both colleagues and clients.

Requirements

  • Previous 2 years experience in import customs brokerage or international trade including import/export documentation is a plus.
  • Must be familiar with U.S. customs regulations and entry procedures.
  • Strong understanding of the Harmonized Tariff Schedule.
  • Proficient in use of MS Office and customs brokerage software.
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • High school diploma required; Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
  • Must have the legal right to work in the United States.
