Processing Operator for 3rd shift

Salary Range:  $25.90 - $25.90 hour

Job Purpose

The Processing Operator I will be responsible for the control of the tank farm area by handling rail car and tank wagon deliveries and shipments. This operation is to be performed keeping safety as a primary objective and following established GMP, Safety, Regulatory, and Foods procedures and policies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (to include but not limited to)

  •  Ensure all safety and GMP policies and procedures are followed while performing daily duties.
  • Record operating data for the department such as products and quantities pumped off from gauge readings, operating times, lot numbers, seal numbers etc., and completing required documentation as needed.
  • Unload bulk product and raw ingredients from railcar and tank wagon in a safe and timely manner to meet production demands.
  • Steams railcars as necessary.
  • Ensures railcars and tank wagons are positioned and secured properly.
  • Manufacture batches for use on production lines.
  • Read and interpret formulas to determine product specifications, processing information, and technical information.
  • Responsible for recording production and test data for each food product batch, to include ingredients, lot numbers, temperatures, and test results.
  • Monitoring and regulating gauges, recording instruments, flow meters, and thermometers to correctly adjust the addition of raw materials, mixing speeds, etc. to maintain the quality of the product and ensure safe and efficient operations.
  • Monitor product movement to and from the storage tanks, coordinate activities with other workers to ensure constant product flow.   Replenish storage tanks regularly to meet the production schedule and avoid downtime.
  • Assist in the Wastewater program by performing activities such as monitoring, sampling, and testing wastewater.
  • Support the production operation by opening and closing product supply valves to the production filling systems upon request from the machine operators.
  • Operate forklift to transport materials within the plant.
  • Monitor inventory of chemical supplies and control chemical supply storage area.
  • Patrolling the work area to detect any leaks, equipment malfunctions, and operating conditions and reporting any deficiencies to the Material Flow Manager and the Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Taking samples of products to provide to the Quality Assurance Laboratory for testing.
  • Using testing equipment to test samples of products to ensure they are in compliance with specifications and document results in required logbooks and/or batch records, reporting any deviations in results to the Quality Assurance Manager.
  • Responsible for having knowledge of transfer valves, pumps, etc. which transfer bulk products from manufacturing to run tanks.
  • Cleaning and sanitizing all equipment necessary for the manufacturing of food products.
  • General housekeeping in working area to comply with GMP’s and safety concerns.

 

Qualifications

  • Experience operating in a fast paced, ready to eat food facility a plus
  • Ability to be self-guided and motivated to operate independently
  • Strong multi-tasking skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure

Education and/or Experience

  • High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
  • One to three months related experience and/or training

Enabling Skills

  • Bi-Lingual (English/Spanish) preferred

Reasoning Ability:

  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to communicate well with others
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written and/or oral instructions
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations

Physical Demands

Plant operations environment and hours.  Ability to manage through urgent situations. The job is performed in a manufacturing plant environment.  Must be able to work outside in environmental conditions, which at times include extreme heat or extreme cold.  Exposure to loud noises, dust, dirt, heat, sparks, oil, and smoke may occur.   Personal protective equipment (safety glasses, steel toed shoes, appropriate clothing, hard hat) is required in manufacturing plants. Activities include extended periods of walking and standing, using hands and fingers.  Capable of lifting 75 lbs.  Must be able to reach, stretch, bend, kneel, and crouch. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, and peripheral vision.
