Job Summary:

As a Dental Hygienist at Hutchinson Family Dental, you will play an integral role in our patients' oral health care by providing preventive care, educating patients on proper dental hygiene, and assisting the dentist with various clinical procedures. You’ll be responsible for performing routine cleanings, scaling, and polishing teeth, taking X-rays, and ensuring that every patient has a positive experience during their visit. Key Responsibilities:

  • Patient Care & Hygiene Procedures:

    • Perform thorough dental cleanings (scaling and polishing) for patients.

    • Conduct periodontal assessments, probing, and charting to assess gum health.

    • Apply fluoride treatments and sealants as necessary.

    • Take and process dental X-rays following proper safety protocols.

    • Assist in the preparation and presentation of treatment plans for patients.

  • Patient Education & Communication:

    • Educate patients on proper oral hygiene practices, including brushing, flossing, and diet recommendations.

    • Provide guidance on how to manage specific oral health conditions, such as gingivitis or periodontitis.

    • Discuss preventive care options and the importance of regular dental checkups with patients.

    • Answer patient questions and address concerns related to dental health and treatments.

  • Collaborating with the Dental Team:

    • Work closely with the dentist to assess patient needs and assist during dental procedures as needed.

    • Take accurate medical histories and update patient records in the practice management system.

    • Maintain cleanliness and sterilization of dental tools and equipment.

    • Help manage patient flow and ensure smooth clinic operations.

  • Administrative & Documentation Responsibilities:

    • Document and update patient charts, including notes on treatments and observations.

    • Ensure that all patient information is accurate and up-to-date in the system.

    • Assist with patient scheduling, reminders, and follow-up appointments as necessary.

  • Infection Control & Safety:

    • Follow strict infection control protocols to ensure the safety of both patients and staff.

    • Ensure proper sterilization of instruments and workspaces after each procedure.

    • Stay up to date on the latest infection control guidelines and techniques.


Qualifications:

  • Education & Licensure:

    • Associate’s degree in Dental Hygiene from an accredited program.

    • Current state license to practice as a dental hygienist in Kansas.

    • CPR/BLS certification (or willingness to obtain).

  • Experience:

    • Previous experience as a dental hygienist preferred, but new graduates are encouraged to apply.

    • Knowledge of dental procedures, X-ray techniques, and dental hygiene tools.

    • Experience with dental practice management software is a plus.

  • Skills:

    • Excellent clinical skills in dental hygiene, including scaling, polishing, and periodontal therapy.

    • Strong communication skills to educate and comfort patients.

    • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.

    • Detail-oriented with a focus on patient comfort and care.

    • Ability to establish rapport and trust with patients, ensuring they feel at ease.
