Job Title: School Nurse
- Location: Rowan-Salisbury School System
- Monday–Friday, 5x8 hours
Position Summary
The School Nurse plays a vital role in promoting the health and well-being of students and staff. This position involves providing direct care, managing chronic conditions, administering medications, and supporting a safe and healthy school environment. The ideal candidate is compassionate, organized, and skilled in pediatric and adolescent health.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct care to students for illness, injury, and medical conditions
- Administer prescribed medications and treatments per physician orders
- Maintain accurate health records and documentation in compliance with state and district guidelines
- Develop and implement individualized health plans (IHPs) and emergency action plans (EAPs) for students with chronic conditions
- Monitor immunization compliance and conduct health screenings (vision, hearing, etc.)
- Respond to medical emergencies and coordinate with emergency services when needed
- Promote health education and wellness initiatives for students and staff
- Collaborate with parents, teachers, counselors, and healthcare providers to support student health
- Ensure infection control practices and manage communicable disease reporting
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA and FERPA regulations
Qualifications
- Registered Nurse (RN) license in NC– required
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) – preferred
- CPR and First Aid certification – required
- Experience in pediatric, public health, or school nursing – preferred
- Strong communication, assessment, and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
Working Conditions

- May require lifting or assisting students with mobility needs
- Fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions
