Job Title: Registered Nurse – PCU (Night Shift)

• Shift Type: Night Shift | 3x12-Hour (18:45–07:15)

Position Summary

Carilion Clinic is seeking a skilled Registered Nurse (RN) for a 13-week contract in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU). This is a hybrid unit with 2 ICU beds and 10 PCU beds, serving adult and geriatric patients with complex medical conditions. The role requires strong clinical judgment, adaptability, and comfort working independently.

Required Qualifications

• Active RN license (state-specific or compact)
• Minimum 1 year of recent PCU experience
• Epic charting experience required
• Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS (preferred)
• Must be able to work without CNA support
• Willingness to float to other units as needed

Key Responsibilities

• Cardiac monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation
• Emergency response and rapid response team participation
• IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration
• Central and peripheral line care
• Respiratory support: nasal cannula, oxygen masks, non-invasive airway management
• Medication administration (including cardiac drips – no titration)
• Isolation precautions and bedside shift reporting

• Unit: 8 South Radius (PCU), 0101-6071
• Patient Ratio: 1:6 (Days & Nights)
• Weekend Coverage: Every other weekend
• Scheduling Type: Self-scheduling
• Support Services: PT, RT, Radiology, Pharmacy, Social Services, Unit Secretary
• Common Diagnoses: DKA, COPD, Sepsis, Renal Failure, Suicide/Overdose
• Special Equipment: Vent/Trach
