Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical Neuro (Night Shift)

- Schedule: 3x12-Hour Night Shifts (18:45–07:15) | Every Other Weekend
Unit Overview
Join this Neuroscience Unit, specializing in neuro-medical surgical care. This 55-bed unit supports adult and geriatric patients with complex neurological diagnoses such as:
- Ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes (SAH, ICH)
- Seizure disorders & epilepsy
- Subdural hematomas and brain tumors
- Craniotomy and spinal cord injuries
- Traumatic brain injury (TBI) & substance withdrawal
Features include a 4-bed Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) with intermediate-level care ratios of 4:1.
✅ Required Qualifications
- Minimum Experience: 2 years total RN experience (1 year Med Surg required)
- Travel Experience: 1 year minimum; 2 years preferred
- Certifications: BLS, NIHSS | ACLS preferred
- ⚕️ Skills:
- IV therapy & phlebotomy
- Central, PICC, and peripheral line care
- Blood product administration
- Dysrhythmia interpretation & emergency response
- Isolation precautions
- Cardiac & vasoactive drips (no titration)
- Non-invasive respiratory management
⭐ Preferred Skills
- Neuro Stepdown or PCU experience
- Feeding tube & HFNC care
- Care for CVA, craniotomy, seizure disorders, TBI
- Familiarity with PYXIS, EPIC, SBAR systems
Float & Scheduling Info
- Patient Ratios: 1:6 (Days, Nights, Weekends)
- Float Requirement: Yes — includes Med Surg/Tele and potential COVID units
- RTO: Max 7 days, makeup required if weekends are missed
- Orientation: 36 hours
- Scrubs: Navy
- EKG test must be passed prior to start
