Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist the dentist during a variety of treatment procedures.
  • Set up and breakdown operatory post treatment.
  • Take and record dental histories and patient records.
  • Prepare and sterilize instruments and equipment.
  • Provide patients with instructions for oral care following surgery or other dental treatment procedures, such as the placement of a restoration (filling).
  • Take dental radiographs (X-rays).
  • Manage infection control - prepare and sterilize instruments and equipment.
  • Help patients feel comfortable before, during, and after dental treatment.
  • Teach patients appropriate oral hygiene strategies to maintain oral health (e.g., tooth brushing, flossing and nutritional counseling).
  • Take impressions of patients' teeth for study casts (models of teeth).
  • Communicate with patients and suppliers (scheduling appointments, answering the telephone, billing and ordering supplies).
  • Help to provide direct patient care in all dental specialties, including orthodontics, pediatric dentistry, periodontics and oral surgery.

Requirements

  • 1 year of experience as a Dental Assistant.
  • Expanded Functions Dental Assistant Certification.
  • X Ray Certification
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Strong understanding of dental procedures and dental terminology.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Strong ability to communicate and work well in a team.
  • A friendly, responsible, and compassionate demeanor.
  • Ability to comply with workplace guidelines and safety standards.
  • Strong customer service skills, ensuring a pleasant and professional service experience for the patients.
  • Proficiency in using dental software and computer systems.
