Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist the dentist during a variety of treatment procedures.
- Set up and breakdown operatory post treatment.
- Take and record dental histories and patient records.
- Prepare and sterilize instruments and equipment.
- Provide patients with instructions for oral care following surgery or other dental treatment procedures, such as the placement of a restoration (filling).
- Take dental radiographs (X-rays).
- Manage infection control - prepare and sterilize instruments and equipment.
- Help patients feel comfortable before, during, and after dental treatment.
- Teach patients appropriate oral hygiene strategies to maintain oral health (e.g., tooth brushing, flossing and nutritional counseling).
- Take impressions of patients' teeth for study casts (models of teeth).
- Communicate with patients and suppliers (scheduling appointments, answering the telephone, billing and ordering supplies).
- Help to provide direct patient care in all dental specialties, including orthodontics, pediatric dentistry, periodontics and oral surgery.
Requirements
- 1 year of experience as a Dental Assistant.
- Expanded Functions Dental Assistant Certification.
- X Ray Certification
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Current CPR certification.
- Strong understanding of dental procedures and dental terminology.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Strong ability to communicate and work well in a team.
- A friendly, responsible, and compassionate demeanor.
- Ability to comply with workplace guidelines and safety standards.
- Strong customer service skills, ensuring a pleasant and professional service experience for the patients.
- Proficiency in using dental software and computer systems.
