Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive patient assessments to identify specific psychiatric needs.
- Implement nursing care plans, including administration of medications and monitoring for side effects and efficacy.
- Provide crisis intervention as needed and stabilize patients experiencing acute mental health episodes.
- Collaborate with psychiatrists, psychologists, and other healthcare professionals to develop effective treatment strategies.
- Educate patients and their families about mental health conditions, treatment plans, and wellness strategies.
- Document patient progress and treatment outcomes with strict adherence to confidentiality and privacy policies.
- Partake in continuous education and training to stay current with best practices in psychiatric nursing and behavioral health treatment.
- Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for patient care.
- Support the operations of the mental health facility through compliance with all clinical and administrative protocols.
- Engage in peer support activities and contribute to team meetings to enhance the quality of patient care.
Requirements
- Holds a current RN license to practice in the state of employment.
- Specific certification in Behavioral Health Nursing (Certified Psychiatric Nurse) is highly preferred.
- Proven experience in behavioral health settings, such as inpatient, outpatient, or home health environments.
- Demonstrable knowledge of psychiatric disorders and effective treatment modalities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of managing sensitive and confidential situations with empathy and professionalism.
- Ability to work independently and make critical decisions in high-pressure situations.
- Flexibility to work various shifts as needed, including potentially nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Strong observation skills, with an ability to accurately document and report clinical data.
- Commitment to continuing education in psychiatric and mental health care.
- Adept at crisis intervention techniques and capable of handling aggressive behavior safely and effectively.
