This is Not Solar Sales. You're helping DC homeowners cut their electric bills for the next 20-30 years - at no cost to them.
That's it. DC has government-backed solar programs that can remove or heavily reduce electricity bills for residents and PEPCO customers, and most people have no idea these programs exist. Your job is to knock on their door, let them know, and schedule an appointment with an energy specialist who explains the rest.
Here's what a conversation at the door actually sounds like:
"I'm helping DC residents and PEPCO customers either remove or heavily reduce their electricity bills for the next 2 to 3 decades - at no cost to them. I'm setting up an appointment for an energy specialist to speak to you further about the program. What's a good time for you?"
That's the whole job. You're not selling. You're not closing. You're not handling paperwork. You book the appointment, an expert takes it from there, and you get paid.
How?
You're going to ask - how is solar actually no cost? Fair question. DC has multiple government-backed incentive programs that stack together to cover the cost of installation for homeowners. These include the Solar for All program (through the DC Department of Energy and Environment), the federal solar tax credit, DC Solar Renewable Energy Credits, net metering through PEPCO, and a property tax exemption on solar upgrades. It's policy. And it's why you can say "no cost" at the door and mean it.
What You'll Do Day to Day
How You Get Paid
Choose the structure that fits how you work:
Commission-Only Bonuses (Option 2):
Think about it: at just 2 deals per week on the commission plan, that's $8,000/month. At 5 deals, you've unlocked the $5,000 bonus on top of it. The program makes this realistic because you're not fighting price objections - the cost is already covered.
