About San Joaquin Valley Youth For Christ:

San Joaquin Valley Youth For Christ (YFC) is a non-denominational Christian ministry dedicated to reaching young people everywhere, working together with the local church and other like-minded partners to raise up lifelong followers of Jesus. We are committed to transforming the lives of youth in the San Joaquin Valley, particularly those who are incarcerated or post-incarcerated, by introducing them to the Gospel and discipling them for life. 

Position Summary:

The Juvenile Justice Ministry Coordinator holds a pivotal part-time leadership role, overseeing all Youth for Christ ministry programs and outreach efforts to incarcerated and post-incarcerated youth aged 11-19 within the San Joaquin Valley. This position requires a dynamic leader with a deep spiritual commitment, strong administrative acumen, and a passion for engaging with and mentoring young people. The coordinator will be responsible for the strategic development and health of ministry sites, significant administrative functions including reporting and scheduling, robust volunteer management, and active participation in fundraising, all while embodying and fostering YFC's core spiritual and cultural attributes. 

Key Responsibilities:

I. Ministry Leadership & Oversight:

  • Direct and guide staff and volunteer teams within the Juvenile Justice Ministry area, ensuring alignment with YFC's "5 Essentials" and national best practices. 
  • Develop and implement strategies for the health, growth, and effectiveness of all ministry sites serving incarcerated and post-incarcerated youth. 
  • Regularly evaluate ministry impact and outcomes, providing guidance and support to site leaders for continuous improvement. 
  • Build and maintain deep, cooperative, and servant-minded relationships with facility staff and administration within juvenile justice institutions. 
  • Actively participate in the YFC Leadership Blueprint process, contributing to a culture of people development across the chapter. 
  • Aid new ministry staff through the initial YFC Credentialing process and participate in the wider YFC movement for personal growth. 

II. Ministry Growth & Outreach:

  • Collaborate with the Executive Director or designee to develop and execute a vision for ministry expansion within the San Joaquin Valley. 
  • Lead the recruitment, training, and ongoing development of volunteers dedicated to entering juvenile justice facilities to meet, mentor, and share the Gospel with teens. 
  • Learn, apply, and train others in the "Three-Story" model of relational evangelism and discipleship. 
  • Build and nurture a strategic community support team to enhance ministry reach and impact. 

III. Administrative & Reporting:

  • Manage significant administrative functions, including comprehensive reporting, meticulous scheduling of ministry activities and volunteer shifts, and maintaining accurate program records. 
  • Ensure timely and accurate submission of all required reports to internal and external partners. 
  • Oversee data collection and management related to ministry participation, outcomes, and volunteer engagement. 
  • Manage program resources and ensure operational efficiency for all Juvenile Justice Ministry initiatives. 

IV. Volunteer Management:

  • Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive recruiting, training, and retention plan for all volunteers and volunteer teams within the Juvenile Justice Ministry area. 
  • Provide ongoing oversight, support, and encouragement to volunteers, ensuring they are equipped and thriving in their roles. 

V. Donor Development:

  • Actively participate in all collaborative fundraising efforts to secure financial resources for the ministry. 
  • Contribute to developing local support for current and future ministry sites within the San Joaquin Valley. 
  • Participate in all "Faithful Development Activity" requirements. 

VI. Spiritual Responsibilities: As an employee of Youth for Christ and an associate minister of the Gospel, this role requires a deep personal commitment to the Christian faith and an active demonstration of YFC's spiritual mission. You will be expected to: 

  • Seek God’s guidance and wisdom through prayer and meditation for the organization and specific ministry initiatives. 
  • Participate in and lead regular times of prayer, devotion, and worship as a regular aspect of your role. 
  • Model empathy, humility, and care for all people in the practice of faith expression. 
  • Have the opportunity to be commissioned or licensed as a minister of the Gospel through the established Youth for Christ process, and/or ordained by an outside body recognized by Youth for Christ USA.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Profound commitment to and embrace of the vision, mission, and Statement of Faith of Youth for Christ. 
  • Participation in YFC’s Blueprint for Leadership and a strong understanding of YFC’s "5 Essentials" model of ministry. 
  • Highly self-motivated with a strong moral character and good repute. 
  • Exceptional ability to connect authentically and effectively with youth aged 11-19. 
  • Well-spoken and engaging in front of both youth and adult audiences. 
  • Proven ability to manage and lead a diverse team of volunteers. 
  • Honors and actively pursues diversity of gifts, cultures, and ethnicities. 
  • Excellent oral, written, interpersonal, and presentation skills. 
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities.  
  • Strong relationship-building skills with adults and young people. 
  • Perseverance and resilience in the face of opposition and obstacles.

Education & Experience: 

  • Three (3) years of ministry experience preferred. 
  • Experience working with at-risk and and/or incarcerated youth preferred. 
  • AA degree of higher preferred, However, relevant experience and certificates will also be considered.  

Position Requirements:

  • Must possess a valid driver's license and reliable transportation, with willingness to travel to various ministry sites and community locations within the San Joaquin Valley. 
  • Must pass a comprehensive background check and child safety clearances in accordance with YFC policies and state regulations. 

Fundraising Responsibilities: All YFC employees are expected to regularly and actively participate in faithful activities that advance the stewardship functions of YFC USA. These activities will include—but are not limited to—extending invitations to fundraising events, recruiting personal circles of influence/YFC donor contacts, sending letters, handwritten notes, personal calls, and personally ministering to donor contacts.
