The Sheet Metal Mechanic will be an integral member of our technical team, working to ensure that all sheet metal fabrication, assembly, and installation tasks are performed accurately and efficiently according to Cullum Inc.'s high standards. The successful applicant will possess proven experience and a keen ability to handle projects that demand precise craftsmanship.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Read, understand, visualize blueprints and specifications and be able to determine the sequence and flow of installation for duct work.
  • Inspects assemblies and installation for conformance with specifications, using measuring instruments such as calipers, scales, and micrometers.
  • Fabricate, assemble, install, and repair sheet metal duct work and accessories (grills and diffusers).
  • Install grills, diffusers, fittings, exhaust fans, supply fans, stairwell fans, louvers, dampers, and other air purification or distribution devices.
  • Install supportive framework (hangers) for duct work.
  • Calculate the flow of air (CFM), calculate HVAC equipment loads (BTU), and pressure differentials.
  • Locates and marks dimension and reference lines on ductwork.
  • Set up and operates fabricating machines, such as shears, brakes, bending rolls, saw, lasers, and punch and drill presses to cut, bend, and straighten sheet metal.
  • Shape metal over anvils, blocks, or forms, using hammers.
  • Drill holes in metal for screws, bolts, and rivets.
  • Set up and operate soldering and welding equipment to join together sheet metal parts.
  • Select gauge and type of sheet metal according to products being fabricated and knowledge of metal.
  • Able to draw hand sketches and specify work with exact measurements and connection type for shop fabrication of ductwork fittings and transitions.
  • Seal and/or smooth seams, joints, or burred surfaces, using files and portable grinder or buffer.
  • Possess enough knowledge and skill to work with a Sheet Metal Helper or Apprentice, providing instruction as to proper methods of tool handling and work product specification.

Requirements

  • Proven title of Sheet Metal Mechanic on resume (not welder, fabricator).
  • Have commercial construction experience.
  • Understand shop math.
  • Work skillfully with tools, metals, and machines.
  • Visualize three-dimensional objects from drawings, sketches, or blueprints.
  • Work within precise limits and standards of accuracy.
  • Perform a variety of duties which may change often.
  • Rate information using measurable standards.
  • See well (either naturally or with correction).
  • Use hands, fingers, arms, and legs fully.
  • Lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
  • Climb and balance on ladders and scaffolds.
  • Stand for long periods of time.
