Job Description

Smiles of Virginia Family Dental Center is excited to announce a part-time contract/temporary opportunity/locum tenens for a dedicated Paramedic. Our current full time in house nurse is out with medical issues for several months so we need help until she comes back. Days worked depends on when we have sedations or not. We have some flexibility with scheduling so we can try and work around your schedule as we understand most paramedics have full time jobs.

This role focuses on a critical support function - monitoring in-office sedation procedures. We offer a competitive remuneration of $500 per day. Most sedation days starts at 8AM and we are normally done around 4pm. This position is strictly on-site and is not eligible for remote work.

As a part-time Paramedic at our center, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the safety and comfort of our patients during sedation for dental procedures. This position is particularly suitable for professionals who are looking to supplement their income and gain unique experience in a dental clinical setting. This role is temporary, providing necessary coverage while our full-time nurse is on medical leave.

  • Closely monitor patient vitals and overall condition throughout the sedation process.
  • Administer drugs and other sedatives as directed by the supervising dentist licensed in IV moderate/conscious sedation.
  • Ensure all equipment and supplies are prepared and available as per the specific needs of each procedure.
  • Maintain accurate patient records, documenting all care provided during the sedation and any significant changes in patient condition.
  • Communicate effectively with the dental team to ensure a cohesive approach to patient care.
  • Manage any emergent situations following established protocols until the patient is stabilized or additional medical support arrives.
  • Monitor the patient post-procedure until they meet the criteria for discharge as per dental office protocols.

Requirements

  • Current NREMT Paramedic certification.
  • ACLS Certification (Advanced Cardiac Life Support).
  • Ideally 5 years or more experience in a paramedic role
