Directional Drill Operator

Salary Range:  $25 - $30 hour

Position: Directional Drill Operator Location: Harmony, MN (projects within 1.5 hours of the shop) Pay Range: Starting at $25/hour+ based on experience and competency

All candidates must pass a pre-employment drug test. Ongoing testing may be required per company policy.

We are a utility contractor specializing in underground utility installation and customer service. Our services include directional drilling, plowing, trenching, drop plowing, fiber splicing, and more.

Summary:

The Directional Drill Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating drilling equipment to install underground utilities. This role works closely with the field crew, interprets job prints, maintains safety standards, and ensures the jobsite is restored to company quality standards.

  • Participating in daily Plan of Day (POD) meetings and pre-job briefings
  • Operating drilling equipment efficiently and safely
  • Maintaining organized and clean equipment
  • Following company processes and contributing to improving workflow
  • Bringing a positive, motivated attitude and eagerness to get the drill in the ground


Responsibilities 

  • Set up jobsite safety devices (cones, barricades, signage, trench safety equipment)
  • Load and unload equipment and materials
  • Inspect vehicles and trailers for proper loading and transport
  • Stock trucks with job materials and supplies
  • Maintain and clean drilling equipment and tools
  • Dig and expose existing utilities using hand tools or equipment
  • Guide and direct laborers on site
  • Operate directional drilling equipment
  • Restore jobsite to company standards
  • Communicate with customers as needed
  • Take ownership of jobsite safety for the entire crew

Equipment Used 

  • DCI F2+ locating system
  • Underground Magnetics 5S locating system

Requirements

  • 1–3+ years of directional drilling experience, including setup, calibration, drilling, and pullback operations
  • 3+ years of experience operating a 20,000 lb or larger drill
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • CDL preferred or willingness to obtain within 30 days
  • Reliable transportation
  • Strong problem-solving mindset (“find a way to make it work”)
  • Ability to meet physical demands (lift 50+ lbs, bending, digging, standing/walking for extended periods)
  • Ability to work in changing weather conditions
  • Must pass a drug test
  • English/Spanish bilingual is a plus
