Resident Hospitality Couple // Resident Host Couple

The Gap at Sawmill Meadow Reports To Program / Discipleship Director

Overview

The Resident Host Couple at The Gap at Sawmill Meadow is invited into a shared life with emerging adults during a pivotal season. This is a vocational calling for a grounded, emotionally mature couple who desire to model what it looks like to live faithfully, responsibly, and hospitably as followers of Jesus.

Rather than serving primarily as teachers or pastors, the Host Couple offers the steady gift of presence—walking alongside students in the everyday rhythms of work, meals, conflict, celebration, and growth. Through consistency, warmth, and clear expectations, the Host Couple helps young adults practice adulthood within a safe, structured, Christ-centered community.

This role is ideal for a couple who loves opening their home, values order and care, and finds joy in helping others grow through lived example and thoughtful feedback.

Role Focus

The Resident Host Couple:

  • Models healthy adult life rooted in responsibility, humility, and love
  • Creates a hospitable, orderly, and welcoming home environment
  • Reinforces program expectations through daily interaction and follow-through
  • Supports (but does not replace) the spiritual leadership and pastoral care provided by the Program/Discipleship Director

Key Responsibilities

Community Life & Presence

  • Live on-site and maintain a consistent, relational presence within the community.
  • Cultivate a home atmosphere marked by warmth, stability, respect, and shared responsibility.
  • Facilitate weekly family meetings focused on logistics, schedules, and shared responsibilities.
  • Help students navigate conflict, communication, and communal living with clarity and grace.

Student Growth & Accountability

  • Meet regularly with students one-on-one to provide encouragement, practical feedback, and accountability.
  • Coach students in areas such as time management, work ethic, follow-through, cleanliness, and participation.
  • Observe patterns of growth or concern and communicate appropriately with the Program/Discipleship Director.

Hospitality & Program Support

  • Welcome and host visiting speakers, mentors, volunteers, and guests.
  • Coordinate meals, lodging logistics, and hospitality for program events and weekends.
  • Support retreats, adventures, and Seminar Saturdays through presence and organization.

Meals & Life Skills

  • Oversee shared cooking and meal systems, including schedules, grocery planning, and kitchen standards.
  • Coach students in meal preparation, nutrition, budgeting, and planning.
  • Ensure communal meals align with established health and budget guidelines.

Facilities & Property Care

  • Steward residential and program spaces with excellence and consistency.
  • Establish and maintain cleaning schedules and standards.
  • Identify maintenance needs and coordinate repairs with approved contractors.
  • Ensure safety practices and systems are followed.

 Community Presence & Relationships

  • Serve as ambassadors of The Gap within the local community.
  • Support relationships with employers, neighbors, volunteers, and donors as assigned.
  • Assist with hosting tours, community meals, and approved on-site events.

Team Collaboration

  • Participate in weekly staff meetings.
  • Communicate regularly with the Program/Discipleship Director regarding community health and student development.
  • Support interns and volunteers through modeling and encouragement.

Clear Role Boundaries

To support a healthy staff culture and clarity, the Resident Host Couple does not hold primary responsibility for:

  • Teaching curriculum or leading formal discipleship content
  • Providing ongoing pastoral care or spiritual direction
  • Setting a theological or programmatic vision
  • Making final disciplinary or program decisions

These responsibilities belong to the Program/Discipleship Director and Executive Director.

Who We’re Looking For

  • A married couple with a deep love for Jesus, personal growth, and shared life.
  • Emotionally mature, self-aware, and able to offer feedback with kindness and clarity.

  • On-site housing Covered
  • Utilities included
