Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist the dentist during various procedures and operate under direct supervision.
- Prepare patients for treatments or checkups ensuring their comfort.
- Select and set up instruments, equipment, and material needed.
- Sterilize instruments according to regulations.
- Lead patients through pre- and post-treatment care instructions.
- Provide oral hygiene and post-operative care instructions.
- Maintain accurate patient records and assist with scheduling of follow-up appointments.
- Take X-rays and dental impressions.
- Manage inventory of supplies and equipment.
- Uphold a clean and sterile working environment in accordance with current regulations.
- Perform administrative tasks such as billing and maintaining treatment records.
- Ensure implementation of office protocols and safety policies.
- Participate actively in team meetings and training sessions.
Requirements
- Certification or degree from an accredited dental assisting school.
- Proven experience as a dental assistant.
- In-depth knowledge of health and safety regulations in this profession (e.g., HIPAA).
- Excellent understanding of dental instruments and sterilization methods.
- Effective communication skills, including the ability to communicate detailed and relevant dental information to patients effectively.
- Strong computer skills and proficiency in using healthcare software and applications.
