Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist the dentist during various procedures and operate under direct supervision.
  • Prepare patients for treatments or checkups ensuring their comfort.
  • Select and set up instruments, equipment, and material needed.
  • Sterilize instruments according to regulations.
  • Lead patients through pre- and post-treatment care instructions.
  • Provide oral hygiene and post-operative care instructions.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and assist with scheduling of follow-up appointments.
  • Take X-rays and dental impressions.
  • Manage inventory of supplies and equipment.
  • Uphold a clean and sterile working environment in accordance with current regulations.
  • Perform administrative tasks such as billing and maintaining treatment records.
  • Ensure implementation of office protocols and safety policies.
  • Participate actively in team meetings and training sessions.

Requirements

  • Certification or degree from an accredited dental assisting school.
  • Proven experience as a dental assistant.
  • In-depth knowledge of health and safety regulations in this profession (e.g., HIPAA).
  • Excellent understanding of dental instruments and sterilization methods.
  • Effective communication skills, including the ability to communicate detailed and relevant dental information to patients effectively.
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency in using healthcare software and applications.
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Compassionate and able to handle patients with anxiety or fear.
  • Detail-oriented with an aptitude for problem-solving.
  • Capability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Flexibility with schedule, including availability to work evenings, weekends, or holidays as needed.
