POSITION PURPOSE:
The Peer Support Specialist (PSS) works as a member of the Cow Creek Health & Wellness team to provide outreach, recovery support, identification, referral, and other community-based supportive services to Native Americans/Alaskan Natives who are impacted by substance abuse, mental illness, or incarceration.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Serve as a peer mentor and develop rapport with individuals seeking support
- Provide emotional support, empathy, and understanding to participants in individual and group settings
- Encourage and facilitate self-advocacy, empowerment, and self-determination
- Collaborate with mental health professionals to ensure holistic care and support
- Identify and connect individuals to appropriate community resources
- Assist individuals in setting and achieving their recovery goals
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical guidelines in all interactions
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Personal experience with mental health recovery
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must have THW certification
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Compassionate and patient demeanor
- Strong commitment to helping others
- Ability to establish boundaries and maintain confidentiality
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed
Benefits:
- Paid Time off (PTO) will begin accruing on the date of hire at the rate of 8 hours per pay period. Maximum PTO accrual will be 480 hours.
