An electrical terminator installs, tests, repairs, and maintains high- and medium-voltage electrical cables and equipment. This role involves preparing and splicing cables, connecting them to equipment like transformers and switchgear, and ensuring the integrity of electrical systems. Key responsibilities include following safety protocols, using hand and power tools, and working with various electrical components.
Core responsibilities
- Cable preparation and splicing: Strip wires, crimp connectors, and splice cables to create a secure connection.
- Equipment installation: Install and connect cables to equipment such as switchgear, transformers, and junction boxes.
- Testing and troubleshooting: Perform electrical testing to ensure system functionality and troubleshoot issues in existing systems.
- Maintenance and repair: Repair or replace damaged cables and equipment and perform maintenance on energized and de-energized lines.
- Safety compliance: Follow all safety procedures and regulations, which may include de-energizing lines, testing for voltage, and applying grounding devices.
Required skills and abilities
- Experience with medium- and high-voltage systems.
- Proficiency with hand and power tools (e.g., drills, crimpers, cutters).
- Ability to read blueprints and schematic drawings.
