We are seeking a dedicated professional with outstanding skills and a positive attitude to lead our back office operations. The successful candidate will join a small, close-knit team led by a dentist with over 30 years of experience. Duties and Responsibilities
- Directly assist the dentist during a variety of treatment procedures.
- Manage dental and medical emergencies by maintaining CPR certification, emergency drug and oxygen supply, and an emergency manual.
- Set up and breakdown operatory post-treatment.
- Take dental radiographs (x-rays).
- Manage infection control - prepare and sterilize instruments and equipment.
- Provide patients with instructions for oral care following surgery or other dental treatment procedures, such as the placement of a restoration (filling).
- Teach patients appropriate oral hygiene strategies to maintain oral health; (e.g., tooth brushing, flossing and nutritional counseling).
- Take impressions of patients' teeth for study casts (models of teeth).
- Perform office management tasks that often require the use of a personal computer.
- Communicate with patients and suppliers (e.g., scheduling appointments, answering the telephone, billing and ordering supplies).
- Help to provide direct patient care in all dental specialties, including orthodontics, pediatric dentistry, periodontics and oral surgery.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a dental assistant; minimum 3 years preferred.
- Excellent understanding of dental hygiene procedures.
- Knowledge of aseptic and sterilization techniques.
- Excellent communication and people skills.
- Attention to detail.
- Well-organized and reliable.
- High school diploma; graduating from dental assistant school is preferred.
- Certification or associate degree in an accredited dental assistance program.
- Dental X-ray certification.
- Expanded functions credentials preferred.
- Ability to make beautiful, lasting temporaries is required.
- Experience with Dentrix software is a plus.
- Capability to handle various dental instruments and equipment.
