Position Summary

The Chairside Specialist plays a critical role in bridging the dental office and laboratory by capturing precise clinical records, providing technical support, and delivering exceptional client experiences. This role supports dentists during restorative procedures by applying laboratory expertise while strictly observing scope-of-practice boundaries. The Chairside Specialist does not provide clinical diagnosis, treatment, or unauthorized adjustments but serves as a technical consultant to help ensure accurate data collection, case coordination, and optimal outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a dental lab or chairside role
  • Solid knowledge of implant systems, restorative workflows, and digital scanning.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Proficient oral and written communication skills.
  • Professional demeanor and ability to build rapport with clinicians.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to field-based demands.

Clinical Record Capture (Upon Service Request)

  • Perform intraoral scanning (IOS) for crowns, bridges, dentures, splints, implant crowns, and AOX restorations.
  • Capture photogrammetry records for full-arch implant workflows.
  • Capture digital photographs (extraoral) for esthetic planning.
  • Identify implant systems and select proper scan bodies, using digital calipers if needed.
  • Submit all captured records along with lab Rx forms.

Technical Consultation (Supporting Dentist)

  • Provide assistance to the dentist regarding prosthetic fit and design, shade selection, and esthetic considerations.
  • Offer real-time verbal recommendations to the dentist during try-ins (e.g., screw-retained hybrid seating).
  • Communicate observations that help optimize the laboratory’s fabrication process.

Relationship Management & Client Support

  • Foster positive, professional relationships with dental teams to enhance trust and drive repeat business.
  • Serve as the lab’s in-office representative, ensuring communication clarity and minimizing remakes or delays.
  • Support the scheduling process with the Customer Experience Team.
  • Provide fee schedules and information about product lines and service.

Infection Control & Equipment Maintenance

  • Adhere to PPE protocols (scrubs, mask, gloves, eyewear).
  • Sanitize all scanning, photogrammetry and other equipment before and after use.
  • Follow proper waste disposal and hand hygiene standards.
  • Complete all training as required.

Administrative & Communication

  • Provide detailed feedback after try-ins (fit, esthetics, phonetics) without assuming authorization.
  • Coordinate promptly with lab technical teams for additional records or clarifications.
  • Maintain detailed case documentation per internal SOPs
