Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist orthodontists during various dental procedures while ensuring patient comfort.
- Prepare and organize orthodontic tools and equipment for each patient’s needs.
- Take and process X-rays and dental impressions to aid in diagnosis and treatment planning.
- Educate patients on oral hygiene strategies specifically related to orthodontic appliances such as braces and retainers.
- Perform sterilization and disinfection of instruments and work areas in compliance with infection control protocols.
- Track and maintain dental supply inventory, placing orders for new supplies as needed while being mindful of budget constraints.
- Setup the orthodontic apparatus and prepare the patient for treatment.
- Coordinate appointment schedules while maximizing efficiency for patient flow.
- Document detailed dental and orthodontic records of treatments and visits accurately.
- Assist in the management of dental emergencies effectively.
- Contribute to team efforts by accomplishing related tasks as needed for optimal patient care and practice success.
Requirements
- Proven experience as an Orthodontic Dental Assistant.
- Thorough knowledge of orthodontic procedures, tools, and patient care methods.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of maintaining positive relationships with team members and patients.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented, able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
- Current certification as a Dental Assistant where required by state law.
- Strong commitment to adhering to safety and hygiene protocols.
- Ability to work well under pressure in a dynamic and demanding healthcare environment.
- Capability to operate and maintain modern orthodontic equipment.
